Hook (1991)
Spin on the classic. Peter Pan returns to Neverland as an adult to rescue his children, face an old nemesis, and reclaim his youth in one fell swoop. Dustin Hoffman and Robin Williams make this one a timeless adventure for the young and the young at heart.
Treasure Island (1950)
Although there have been many film versions of the famous novel, this one is the best! It is the epitome of all things pirate: ships, islands, buried treasure, and of course one-legged pirates with parrots. A young boy gets caught up with Long John Silver in the search for buried treasure. If you are a pirate aficionado and have not seen this film, ye better!
The Buccaneer (1958)
This film can be enjoyed by both pirate and history buffs. Set during the War of 1812, Privateer Jean Lafitte helps fight in the Battle of New Orleans to protect America from Great Britain. It is a classic featuring two timeless actors, Yul Brynner and Charlton Heston.
Pirates of The Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)
This movie has become a swashbuckling favorite, and it all began with a theme park attraction! Disney created the infamous Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) who teams up with Will Turner to rescue the kidnapped Elizabeth Swan, and of course an awaiting treasure trove of gold. If you are looking for a good storyline and tons of action this film has got it all!
The Princess Bride (1987)
This cult classic is a screen adaptation of the 1973 novel. It has a little bit of everything: comedy, romance, fantasy, action, and best of all the villainous Dread Pirate Roberts. The main character, Westley, journeys to rescue his true love, Princess Buttercup, from the arms of the Prince before it’s too late.
Captain Blood (1935)
Looking for a little cinematic nostalgia? This black-and-white pirate film follows an imprisoned doctor (Errol Flynn) forced into slavery. After a successful escape, Dr. Blood sets sail on the high seas for a life of redemption.
The Goonies (1985)
This movie has all the makings of a classic. The plot follows a bunch of kids, who call themselves “The Goonies”. After finding a treasure map they set out on an adventure to find buried pirate treasure in of all places, Oregon. Along the way they face a number of characters on their quest, including One-Eyed Willie the pirate, that bring this group of friends closer together with plenty of stories to tell.
