We’re not kidding – this kind of face-to-face encounter with a massive sea creature inspires shock, awe and wonder.

Free divers recently encountered some juvenile humpback whales in Caribbean waters.

In an expedition to study humpback whale behavior during the annual migration to breeding grounds, a cameraman from Urzala and researchers from Panga, MX experienced an amazing, one-of-a-kind encounter.

The sounds are what make this video truly incredible.

Once the video crew submerged, the fluke slashes, which were initiatively interpreted as a way to keep distance between the whales and humans, were then realized to be a simple way of playing with the humans.

You’ll see that one of the whales showed plenty of interest in the visitors, swimming back and forth for more than 30 minutes (we don’t have all 30 minutes of video footage, unfortunately).
