Sea Lion Pup’s Wild Night Ends In The Back Of Police Car

Not again.

Another week and another report of a sea lion pup in the back of a police car. Two weeks ago, a sea lion pup was pick up in San Diego.

This time this little guy was picked up as he was walking along the Pacific Coast Highway north of San Francisco near Fort Bragg, CA, according to the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Department.

It’s a safe bet he was not hitchhiking.

“Due to the darkness and the dense fog the animal was very difficult to see and would have certainly been struck by a vehicle if the deputies had not stopped,” the department said in a news release.

The pup had been tagged (Repeat offender?).

Deputies contacted the Marine Mammal Center and it turned out the pup had previously been rescued.

The pup did not appear to be in any distress and the Marine Mammal Center instructed the deputies to return him to the ocean. As of last week, the pup had made some new sea lion friends and was far off the beach, according to the police.

Good.

This is yet another happy ending in the ongoing #2015SeaLionCrisis underway along the coast in California. Marine mammal care facilities like Marine Mammal Center and SeaWorld San Diego have been busy rescuing an alarming number of young, malnourished sea lions, lately.
