Rescued Sea Turtles Find Forever Home at SeaWorld
Sea turtles are good representatives of much of our ocean’s life: beautiful, ecologically critical, and endangered. Out of the seven species of sea turtle, four are listed as endangered or critically endangered, and six live in US waters.
The good news is that zoological facilities are getting pretty turtle-savvy, especially when it comes to rescues.
SeaWorld Orlando in particular, is known as one of the headquarters of marine animal rescue, rehabilitation and release, and turtles are one of their specialties. In fact, SeaWorld Orlando saves the lives of dozens of individual turtles per year from all manner of dangers including pollution and entanglement, cold stress, boat strikes, and even shark attacks.
Cold snaps in Florida can result in an influx of stressed out turtles, but when SeaWorld leaps into action, many of these critically endangered animals can make a healthy return to the wild, where they may have died without help.
