SeaWorld Donates $25,000 To Other Sea Lion Rescue Centers
The world has been been following the Sea Lion Crisis of 2015 very carefully over the last few weeks. We recently had a chance to visit SeaWorld San Diego where they had already rescued over 400 sea lions so far. Now they have set a new rescue record with over 475 rescues, blowing past the previous record which was set in 1983.
It’s an impressive feat, but under very unfortunate circumstances.
The point is this: actions speak louder than words, especially when it comes to animal care and conservation, and SeaWorld’s actions should be a loud wake up call for anyone who might have been misled by radical animal activists. SeaWorld is leading this crisis by example, expanding their Animal Rescue team from 5 to over 40 people and flying in team members from their parks in Orlando, Tampa and San Antonio.
They also suspended their popular and profitable Beluga Interaction Program and Sea Lion and Otter Show.
On top of SeaWorld’s direct actions, they have also been providing support and assistance to smaller non-profits who don’t have the resources of large SeaWorld Parks.
SeaWorld just announced that it would be donating a total of $30,000 to five different non-profits and one college who also tirelessly working to help the sea lions found starving, sick and injured on the California coastline.
- Marine Mammal Care Center in San Pedro
- Pacific Marine Mammal Center in Laguna Beach
- California Wildlife Center in Malibu
- Channel Islands Marine & Wildlife in Santa Barbara
- The Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito
- Moor Park College
If you can, we encourage you to donate either time or money to these organizations that are in desperate need.
When wildlife is in crisis, SeaWorld is there on the front lines leading the charge and helping organizations that might not have as many resources.
While SeaWorld’s team members are working night and day, an organization who purports to be focused only on the welfare of animals is busy doing something else.
See for yourself:
In addition to ignoring the crisis, they even go so far as to criticize organizations who are in the fight to save these desperate sea lions.
It’s not worth spending any more time on that while the focus should be on the every day heroes out there. But it’s worth reminding – Actions speak louder than words.
