Refreshing News From SeaWorld and Coca-Cola
By Mike Madsen
Some refreshing news from SeaWorld and their soft drink partner, Coca-Cola. In keeping with their Green philosophy, SeaWorld Parks have debuted the first refillable/reusable cups that are made from, you guessed it, green materials—literally.
This new innovation is made from plant-based materials in a 100% recyclable plastic cup, that is now available at all SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment venues across the country, including Busch Gardens and Sesame Place. The new and spiffy green cups are made using proprietary PlantBottle™ packaging technology from SeaWorld’s beverage partner, Coca-Cola.
“Working together, our two companies are using our resources and reach to inspire people to make a difference,” said SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment Corporate Vice President of Culinary Operations Andrew Ngo. “Our friends at The Coca-Cola Company share our commitment to conservation, our passion for the planet, and our innovative approach to consumer experiences. Even more important, this appeals to our guests, who expect and reward recycling and sustainability.”
The new PlantBottle™ cups are made from an inventive process that features natural sugars found in plants instead of plastic resins from petroleum products. SeaWorld anticipates these new refillable cups will remove 35 metric tons of CO2 emissions annually.
Of course this is not the first time that SeaWorld and Coca-Cola have partnered in a green initiative. The two partners previously collaborated in “Cup That Cares™”, a reusable cup that incorporates an embedded RFID chip that communicates with Coca-Cola Freestyle® dispensers, calculating the amount of carbon guests are keeping from the environment by using the refillable cups.
SeaWorld is also looking at using Coca-Cola’s Plantbottle™ tech to manufacture all of its many souvenir cups and is also exploring its use for other things throughout the parks as well, in keeping wit their continuing commitment to green living and sustainability.
