PETA recently had a stunt majorly backfire and it is now costing one person their job.
The radical group PETA put out a press release claiming “victory” after SeaWorld’s links were taken down off of the Florida Department of Education’s website.
When reporters from the Orlando Sentinel inquired, the links reappeared and the Florida Department of Education announced that it would be investigating why the links were removed.
Today the Florida Department of Education announced that it has terminated the employment of Jennifer Hartshorne, who was the deputy communication director at the state agency.
Meghan Collins, who was Ms. Hartshorne’s boss, stated: “SeaWorld is a valuable education partner for the Department.”
PETA has yet to apologize for orchestrating another publicity stunt that backfired AND causing collateral damage that resulted in Ms. Hartshorne losing her job.
Lesson here: Don’t Listen To PETA.

Update: Still no word on the fate of Tallahassee Democrat reporter Amanda Claire Curcio and her breathless and inaccurate reporting of this PETA stunt.
Ms. Hartshorne, meet Ms. Amanda Claire Curcio. Ms. Claire Curcio won’t be winning a Pulitzer anytime soon. Also, her editors at the Tallahassee Democrat should be on a Shame On Us vacation.
