The news that’s rocking the Aquarium and Conservation world is not over. Actually, it’s far from over. The DFO (the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans) is predicting deadly consequences not only for the Vancouver Aquarium’s current resident cetaceans, but also for the future.
A quick recap on the current situation:
The Vancouver Park Board put their faith and trust in an extreme and unscientific group of activists, instead of an AZA accredited facility that has rescued hundreds of marine animals and education millions of people since their inception.
Currently, the Vancouver Aquarium is the only facility in Canada that has… or had… the ability to rescue and take in cetaceans that were deemed non-releasable. The world renowned facility’s head veterinarian Dr. Martine Hualena commented, “We are the only place in Canada that has the capability of responding to a live stranded cetacean, bring them into a facility, and successful rehabilitate those animals.” He continued in shock, “I can’t honestly believe that this is what people want.”
Remember Chester? He is a false killer whale that was stranded as a young calf on Tofino beach more than 3 years ago. Since being deemed non-releasable, Vancouver gave the cetacean a home and he’s been happy and healthy ever since.
For future cetaceans like Chester… or Daisy, a harbor porpoise who was also rescued and rehabilitated, well they probably won’t have one. The new ban is eliminating the potential for future rescues and the animals in need of help will more than likely be euthanized.
It’s time to face the facts. PETA is NOT interested in “saving” animals. They’re in the business of KILLING animals. Since 1998, their organization has killed close to 35,000 animals. By distracting the public with scantily clad women covered in red paint, the public doesn’t see what’s really happening.
