The Assiniboine Park Conservatory (APC) asks the public to participate in a naming poll for two orphaned polar bear cubs.
The polar bear cubs arrived at the Zoo in early December 2017 after being identified by Manitoba Sustainable Development to serve as candidates for e Leatherdale International Polar Bear Conservation Centre.
The naming poll is open now to 4:00 p.m. Thursday, January 25 on the Assiniboine Park Zoo website.
The results will be announced on Friday, January 26 and the cubs will make their debut at 11:00 a.m. at the Leatherdale International Polar Bear Conservation Centre. Their exhibit will remain open until the Zoo closes at 4:00 p.m. The Zoo is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The name options for the female cub are:
- Willow
- Tundra
The name options for the male cub are:
- Arctic
- Baffin
The names were chosen based on their Arctic geography by the polar bear zookeeper team.
“Our visitors and the community at large form strong attachments to the polar bears in our care, so we are happy to give them the opportunity to help choose names for these young cubs,” said Laura Cabak, Marketing & Communications Specialist, Assiniboine Park Conservancy.
