Ocean trash is everywhere, it is truly astounding the variety and quantity of trash you are able to find in the ocean. Sometimes, walking along the beach picking up trash seems like a depressing sort of treasure hunt through other people’s stuff.
One teen has found a hoard of golf balls in the ocean and has made it her mission to pull them out one by one. In fact, she has already pulled over 50,000 golf balls out of the water.
Alex Weber had this to say about the golf ball discovery, “You couldn’t even see the sand.” The sea floor was completely white with golf balls.
So, she decided to do something about it! With the help of her dad and a friend, she has hit the 50,000-ball mark! The conditions for removal are not ideal. In addition to cold water, rough waves, and sharks, there is a constant barrage of golf balls from the nearby courses that are constantly falling into the water around them.
Golf balls are a real source of pollution that can significantly impact our oceans in a negative way. Weber hopes that laws are passed to hold golf clubs accountable for this outrageous mountain of golf balls sitting on the seafloor.
