If it works, don’t change it.
That’s what Speedo USA had in mind when they designed their newest line of swim gear.
Using ‘biomimicry’- designing gear based off of nature- the team studied humpback whales and created the perfect flippers that mimic the cetacean’s pectoral fins.
Check out the whale-ish fin features:
- Edge openings along the side of the new Nemesis Fin act like blow valves and create more resistance on the down kick. This allows the swimmer to propel themselves faster.
- Flow channels on the fins guide the swimmer’s foot for maximum kick efficiency.
- Fins are composed of naturally buoyant injection-molded EVA foam that allows swimmers to keep feet and hips elevated, creating the perfect swimming posture.
Barry McGeough, vice president of hard goods, knows Speedo’s newest duds are the bomb.com.
“We’ve built new technology for swimmers of all levels using what we’ve learned from studying the humpback whale, which moves through water with incredible speed and agility considering its massive body size and small fin size,” McGeough said.
