Like most Little Blue Penguins, Sheila and Goose are monogamous. These two locked flippers and did the deed last year at the Adventure Aquarium, an after over a month of incubation, their shared egg has come to hatch. The Aquarium located in New Jersey welcomed this newborn girl into the world on December 3rd, and during the month of January, they asked people like you to help them decide upon her name.
Although the voting is now over, all of the names were certainly winners in our book.
- Elanor. No, that’s not a typo. This twist of the traditional name “Eleanor” translates literally to “home by the sea.”
- Tuatahi (AKA Tua). Just like Little Blue Penguins, this name originates from New Zealand. It means “first” in Maori language, signifying the first ever Little Blue Penguin born to the Adventure Aquarium.
- Robin. Quite simply, Robin describes the Little Blue Penguin’s vibrant plumage for which the species is named.
There’s no news as to which of the above names was picked by fans of the aquarium, but we’re certainly looking forward to the announcement!
