Sammy the friendly neighborhood seal was killed earlier this week after a tourist fed him fish from a pleasure boat. Although there were warnings in place from the captain to not feed Sammy or any other wild animal, someone decided to ignore the rules. Sammy was known for swimming up next to boats and being very friendly with humans in St Ive Harbor. It’s a shame such a friendly, innocent and beloved animal had to lose its life to human ignorance yet again.

The incident occurred when the tourists threw fish off of their boat to Sammy, who was then hit by the propeller of the boat and was not able to survive the injury. The event took place in front of 40 witnesses, including children.
“The man ran off before he could be punched in the face, and that’s probably just as well. Bloody fuming,” one witness stated.
