A 220-pound male loggerhead turtle is back in the wild today thanks to staff at the Florida Aquarium.
Casey the sea turtle was found stranded in Sarasota in late May and taken to the Mote Marine Laboratory to be examined.
Veterinarians suspected that he fell ill after being exposed to a red tide, which can disrupt normal neurological and immune functions.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission transported him to the Florida Aquarium the next day where he received fluid therapy and antibiotics.
After several days of TLC, his appetite returned and he began to recover his strength.
Casey was finally released back into the ocean on Wednesday, August 16.
Six staff members carried the enormous sea turtle to the shoreline to let him go, and from the looks of it, he was happy to be home again.
