PETA is planning a road trip to Long Beach, California to protest SeaWorld’s revolutionary Blue World Project. Instead of protesting, it’s most likely to be just activists yelling and attempting to intimidate members of the California Coastal Commission at their hearing on SeaWorld’s project.
It’s a safe prediction given PETA’s track record of outrageous behavior. Here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here or here.(Editor’s note: Too many examples to continue linking)
“Probably everything we do is a publicity stunt … we are not here to gather members, to please, to placate, to make friends. We’re here to hold the radical line.” – Ingrid Newkirk PETA President and Founder USA Today September 3rd, 1991
Despite PETA’s campaign and its keyboard warriors’ 100,000 robotic form emails, the Commission staff recommended approval of the Blue World Project on its merits.
“The proposed Blue World project will provide not only an expanded habitat for whales, but also new opportunities for researchers to conduct studies that will benefit killer whales and other cetaceans in the wild,” said Paul Ponganis, a research physiologist at Scripps Institute of Oceanography, in a statement released by SeaWorld. “In addition, a dynamic animal environment like Blue World may inspire a host of future marine biologists, veterinarians, and other scientists.
Now PETA is planning to lay siege to the Commission’s upcoming October 8th meeting with activists – who, according to this Facebook invite, are likely to be well-fed with the finest vegan cuisine:
It’s interesting to note that the Coastal Commission deals with environmental impacts from construction projects in California. That’s their only scope of authority. However, PETA is busing in ‘semi-professional’ activists from 3 states not named California to ramp up the intimidation of the Commission on issues not in their purview.
So why is PETA is protesting SeaWorld’s plan to improve their killer whale’s habitat, a habitat they’ve been complaining about for years?
While SeaWorld has been operating in good faith with the Commission and has gone above and beyond in re-enforcing their commitment to world-class animal care, activists groups, lead by PETA, have been deceptive with their ultimate goal: moving animals to dangerous and deadly sea pens.
We’ve covered the topic extensively. Check out this article on why sea pens are not a viable option. Or this one on the hidden motivation behind the push for sea pens. Or this article highlighting a leading activists’ surprising opinion on sea pens.
The folks who are going to be loading up into the PETA buses need to know one thing: Activists only want to move the animals to dangerous and deadly sea pens so they can profit off them.
