Dolphin Awareness Month also happens to be Spring Break for college students. Well, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) wants those crazy college kids heading to Florida beaches to leave the dolphins alone.
According to a March 3 news report from KATC:
In an effort to better protect dolphins along Florida’s coasts, NOAA is reminding beachgoers of some simple ways to safely enjoy them from a distance.
Through targeted messaging, aerial banners and social media posts, biologists are hopeful that people will listen and respect wild dolphins during their visit.
NOAA is also taking to social media to further increase awareness on limiting interactions with wild dolphins. Two Facebook pages have been set up: Don’t Feed the Dolphins & Dolphin SMART.
Beachgoers will see aerial banners along the beaches off Panama City three weeks in March 7, 14 and 21. The message will be “Don’t feed wild dolphins! It’s illegal.” #dontfeedwilddolphins
So there you go Spring Breakers. Keep the partying on shore and don’t mess with the dolphins.
