Who would have thought that a land mammal (a dog) and a marine mammal (a dolphin) would get along so absolutely swimmingly?
We didn’t, but we’re dolphinately not complaining!
Last Sunday in Rockingham Beach in Perth, Australia, the golden retriever was caught on video swimming around in the water and making friends with a nearby bottlenose dolphin who decided to dip in and out of the shallow waves and circle the playful pooch, who was happy to give chase. When he could spot it.
Professor Lars Bejder, part of the Cetacean Research Unit from Murdoch University, suggested to 9News that the dolphin was most likely exploring closer to the coastline for food when it came across the dog and was curious, as Bejder also shared when the bottlenose dolphins find something new, or “novel, they want to check it out.”
